Quality snap caps simulate live rounds in the chamber, protect the firing pin and give you real feedback on extraction and ejection during malfunction drills. A set costs almost nothing, so if you're dry firing without them especially on certain platforms, you're just making it harder on yourself than it needs to be. Dry fire without snap caps is like practicing guitar with no strings, you’re training confidence, not function.
One time, a Zoom snap cap actually got jammed in my extractor and ever since then, I've been really particular about which brands I use. A good quality snap cap really does make a difference for dry fire practice especially when you're constantly running reloads and malfunction drills without putting unnecessary wear on your firing pin.
