Well this squirrel season did not start well. I have been hunting squirrels with a handgun for many years and was looking forward to this year. I know I'm getting old but I did not expect it to catch up this quickly. I've wounded four squirrels and missed several others at ranges from 20-25 yards with my scoped SSK contender shooting from a stool and using shooting sticks, just can't hold steady. It looks like my handgun hunting days are over. Thankfully I can still hit with a rifle. I think I will sell the handguns and buy a high end pellet rifle as the .22LR has to much carry range for where I live so I need to pass up some shots.

I am also a handgun hunter, I turned 63 last thursday but can still hold things pretty steady despite the arthritis. Had to give up shooting my big bore revolvers a couple years ago, too painful. Me and a buddy went out this week end over on the west central side and camped, my freind got one saturday morning but we pretty much got raind out the whole week end.

I guess I shouldn't complain much, I'm 80 and have had a lot of good years hunting and fishing plus I still think there are a few more left. I survived three days wading trout streams in Wisconsin with no issues two weeks ago.

That’s really impressive...three days on your feet in trout streams at 80 says a lot

It’s okay to switch to a pellet rifle if that better suits your range and comfort.
