What is it about Glock that has made it a favorite for so many people over the years?

Effective, aggressive world-wide marketing, simple design, innovative engineering, and comprehensive product support made the business model a winner from the start. The initial manufacturing cost was estimated to be less than $25 per unit in material costs. Strict limitation on distributor sales kept prices high and aggressive pursuit of government contracts propelled the "Zip Gun" concept to what it is today.

Copies of the plastic pistol design , once an oddity, are now everywhere and accepted as desirable on a global scale. Glock has long sent factory-trained instructors into the field providing hands-on "Armorer Classes" to reach thousands of L.E. Agencies. The free Armorer's Tool (A punch) is all that's required to replace the mechanism's major parts. I am a "graduate" of the Glock Law enforcement Armorer's class. a one-day thing. Remington's 870 shotgun armorer school was 40 hours.

Glock recognized the civilian market as secondary to get the company started on sound footing. German engineering, limiting products to the same basic design, and leaving the secondary accessory and customization to others was/is good business. Glock quality control is very good and remains in-house.

About as "technical" as a ball-point pen, the design is mostly "replace with the punch" to keep the pistol functioning. Regardless of the "Safe trigger" marketing slogan, more accidental discharges have occurred with the design than any other. Depress the trigger, it fires. Some fitted holsters have even been found to fire them if the shooter isn't careful when re-holstering. It is NOT a pistol to leave unattended. Any depression on the trigger will fire the pistol (even a toddler).

As a "system" for L.E., overall, it's worked well. Easy to teach, easy to maintain, and thanks to changeable grip configurations, adaptable to different-sized hands The nitride finish on the slide is superb, after over 25 years, my old model 22 shows only minimal holster wear and has never rusted.

Large magazine capacity on most models eliminates the necessity of reloading often and, even the factory magazines are super resistant to breakage. It is not my favorite pistol, either, but it does have its place because of the reliability factor. Resale value is high.
