Remove guns during mental health crisis

Haven't seen the proposed legislation. Basic problems few consider are "Who's going to do this? (Most agencies have not only too few officers and no place/room to store firearms & ammo for extended time periods). Sanctions/penalties? - What are the consequences if/when the respondent refuses? There are already federal statutes prohibiting certain persons from possessing firearms.

This may well fall under the Hancock Amendment - an unfunded mandate trying to force additional duties on agencies without additional funding. With around 3,000 pieces of proposed legislation already, filibusters, and the fact that the last two sessions saw under 100 bills sent to the Governor, it's doubtful it will get any traction.

I see the potential for misuse, like red flag laws.
Amen. We already have the ex parte orders of protection in place. It's a good thing most of the time, but some divorce lawyers have used it to enable spouses to literally clean out everything without interference rather than keep an abuser from causing harm.

But - here's the thing - one horrific event (they will happen) and the predictable knee-jerk reaction can trigger sweeping legislative responses that may never be undone. Witness any number of such in other countries as well as our own. Common sense is not a factor in the world of homicidal maniacs.

There is an Organization in Columbia Mo that will store Your firearms for you if You are having mental problems. This will keep them out of the hands of Law Enforcement.
