Just a quick poll for everyone

As optics gain popularity among those who carry, I can’t help but wonder what your setup is. Are you using red dot on your EDC or do you still lean towards traditional iron sights?

I've used Vortex Venom red dots on my hunting revolvers for over ten year and always found them a little hard to pick up the dot quickly. The tube type seem quicker to pick up but would be much too large for a carry gun. Due to the range expected I stay with the open sights, if ever used it will probably be a point and shoot. Anyway, I can no longer use red dot sights as they have become stars for me. I gone to Contender single shots with scopes for hunting.

My only carry gun since I retired is a compact 1911 and it wears a set of Novak irons. I had an experience this past Tuesday in the 20 degree weather where a Burris FF3 wouldn’t turn on. I was on a managed deer hunt and planned to use my .277 Wolverine pistol with the Burris. I ended up having to go back to camp and get a backup gun with a scope. As Teep said, my use of a carry gun is likely to be close and fast so I will stick with the irons. Hopefully none of us will ever need our carry guns! I have drawn my carry gun 3 times in tense situations but all three times it involved 4 legged critters, 2 dogs and a bear, I ended up talking (yelling) my way out of all 3 encounters thankfully!
