For those of us living in rural areas or spending a lot of time outdoors, having a truck gun can really make a difference. I’m curious, what do you guys prefer for your car setup? Are you more of an AR fan, or do you prefer shotguns? I’d love to check out your setups and see what you’ve got going on!

When I go to the woods this little AR pistol usually gets the nod. I prefer a short handy firearm and because of the added length of the suppressor the 12.5” barrel chambered in .277 Wolverine is just about perfect. The Burris FF3 works pretty well and is good enough for a 200 yard poke at a pig. If I’m actually going hunting then whatever gun I’m hunting with is the truck gun by default. These pigs can be a real nuisance!!!

Mine's a Kel-Tec Sub2000 in 9mm, and I really love it. It’s very compact and lightweight which makes it really convenient. It also folds in half where I can easily tuck it behind my seat or throw it in a gear box without any hassle.

I live in Iron county and hunt, there, Reynolds and Dent counties mostly. They are not as abundant as they were but they are starting to repopulate and were never completely exterminated. They have stopped hunting them and the government trappers I have observed are pretty ineffective. They shoot them from helicopters occasionally and they are very effective at killing the young ones, the older ones just lay up in the thick cover and let them fly over.

MDC STRONGLY REQUESTS NOT HUNTING HOGS VIA RIFLE. You are only taking 2-3 at most, and educating the remainder of the sounder. MDC prefers to bait under large suspended corrals, trapping the whole sounder simultaneously. Checking with my MDC agent relative having a lot of chopper door gunner experience to see if he can apply for that role....again.....hogs not shooting back....yet. Will advise...but, doubting it.

The MDC is reading too many books! I have watched mature hogs climb right up the side of a trap placed and operated by the MDC. You can’t put a top on the trap or any deer that get caught can’t get out and will kill themselves trying. They often don’t get the whole sounder. A few years ago the MDC put a trap on our deer lease and caught 16 pigs. They pronounced the hogs gone and left. In the next 2 months we killed either 54 or 56 hogs on the same property. They can’t all be trapped, they can’t all be killed from a helicopter either. I’m of the opinion that they can never all be killed as long as sport hunting is not permitted and maybe not even then. I have friends that used to hunt with dogs and they killed hundreds or possibly thousands of hogs and routinely killed entire sounders of hogs. They were very effective and I think with a combination of all the methods of control that it may be possible to eradicate the pigs. I don’t know for sure if they can ever be eliminated but without hunting I’m certain they will not .
