Is anyone here into casting? I’d love for you to share your insights and tips. Let's all learn from each other and help each other out!

When I first got into casting, I was working with a Lee 2-cavity mold for .38 Special and just a basic ladle setup. My first few pours were a complete mess. But once I wrapped my head around keeping the mold temperature right and making sure the alloy was clean, everything started to come together. Now, I’ve expanded to casting for .45 ACP, .357 Mag, and even some rifle rounds like .30-30. It’s funny, but I’ve found a rhythm that feels almost like meditation. There’s something really satisfying about it.

When I first got into casting, I mostly stuck to .38 Special and .45 ACP just to keep expenses down. I started falling in love with the whole process. There’s something mesmerizing about the rhythm of pouring molten lead, the distinct smell of flux in the air, and the sheer joy that comes when those perfect little bases drop out of the hot mold. These days, my casting game has expanded big time. I’m making everything from fun plinking rounds to serious hunting loads, and I’ve even dived into powder coating. It’s been great for cutting down on leading and skipping that messy lube part.

I cast a few different calibers but what I’m going to run the next time I fire up the pot up is 330 grain Gould hollow points for my .45/70’s. I have a few different molds from .30 caliber to .45 caliber.

Neither here nor there but when I saw the title of your post I was thinking fishing 🤣

When I saw the title I was going to reply Loomis and Orvis. The only thing I've cast for ammo is round balls for my slingshots.
